Spotlight On

A California native, a thrill seeker, and Born Dirty girl.

Name: Mandy
Age: 23 (but I'll be 24 in thirteen days!!  Buy presents!)
Location: San Diego, CA
Where were you born?
Hollywood, CA (it's where I get my "Hollywood smile" from!)

Cool!  Did you grow up there?
I lived in LA for a couple of years and have steadily moved south since.  I "grew up" in a little town called Menifee Lakes, which is technically in BFE north of San Diego County.

Do you like living in San Diego?
I love it.  I will have to win the lottery in order to buy a house and the price of gas gives me heartburn, but I call the cost of living here "The Sunshine Tax."  Where else can you play volleyball on Christmas?

What did you want to be when you grew up? A journalist, a jockey (that was before I hit 5'10" in 7th grade!) and an actress.

Oh, congrats on your new job!  How is that going?
Thanks!!  The new job is AWESOME.  The people are really nice and the job is way easy going.  Besides, I get to wear jeans every day and it is only 2 miles from my house!

What were mealtimes like for you as a child?
As dysfunctional as my family was at times, we ALWAYS had dinner together at the dinner table.  My dad is a great cook and would make dinner and my parents would catch up on their days and the kids (there were five of us at any given time) would talk.

Do you cook?
As a matter of fact, I do!  My dad was practically gourmet and would teach me all his tricks.  When I first moved out on my own, the rumor got started that I couldn't cook because I went from a gourmet kitchen with every appliance imaginable to a little apartment kitchen with a pot and a knife (which I had to throw away because my roommate was a cutter!)  Now my parents are slowing building up my arsenal (I got a KitchenAid Stand Mixer for Christmas last year!) and I can cook again. My best dish is Chicken and Dumplings and I make a mean Irish Cream Cheesecake.

Which fast food place is your favorite?
In-N-Out (that's what a hamburger's all about!)  It's a Cali chain and YUMMY!

Did you ever like any of your school photos?
Not until I got well into high school.  Everything before that was a testament to "Urkelette" with Coke Bottle glasses and a mouthful of braces.

What was your first date like?
I went and saw Alien 3 (?) with my 6th grade boyfriend and his parents.  I still hate those kind of movies.

Do you go on many dates these days?
HammieLove and I like to go out to eat.  So yes.  But we have also been dating for over 5 years, so it is hard to classify them as "dates."

What is in your vegetable bin?

Any particular flavor?
Right now, it is Coors.  I am a Michelob (in the bottle, not can) girl myself.  I also drink vodka martinis.  I like my martinis how I like my men, bruised and dirty!  (Just Kidding!)

What color is your car?
Underneath the dirt, it is black.  I will never buy a black car again!

What color is your dirt bike?
Bubba, (that's my bike) is Honda Red. The new one I want (who shall be named Trixie) is Red too.  Here's a picture of Trixie!

Are you having a good hair day?
Nope.  I was up all night with a toothache, so I just threw the hair in a ponytail today.

What is your favorite perfume?
Ralph Lauren True Romance

What is your middle name?

What type of books do you like to read?
Anything with words.  I read about 400 pages a day, so I read anything.  I love Stephen King's Dark Tower series, historical romances (not the Harlequin soft-core types though...) and all of the

Any magazines?
I am a magazine JUNKIE and it drives HammieLove NUTS!!  US Weekly (which is such a guilty pleasure), Redbook, Entertainment.  I am getting away from Cosmo and Glamour because, seriously, how many regurgitated "New Hot Sex Moves!" and "Drive Your Man Crazy in Bed!"
articles can a girl take?

What is your favorite type of cookie?
White Chocolate Macadamias

Who would you like to see featured on the next Spotlight?
Why how about one my fave HT recappers, Ferfelebat??

Thanks for sharing your pictures and thoughts with us, Mandy!

Rock On!

I've complied a few CD mixes lately, the last two have been mostly ballad-type love songs,
but today's mix is mostly songs that I love and can't live without.  To my understanding,
most of these songs have achieved popular status, although, since I rarely listen to the
radio or watch music videos, I'm fairly out-of-touch with what is popular now. I typically like songs that have their roots in rock and roll.  I almost always go for songs that I can sing, and ones that make me tap my foot.

I have been playing this CD mix for the last day and a half, and I still haven't gotten enough.
My children, I sadly think, have.  My daughter has become a little too familiar with some of the
lyrics.  "Mom, what's a 'bartender'?", and my son earlier said, "Stop singing Mommy. Please".

But, I. Just. Can't.

Here's the lineup~

The Devil in the Wishing Well ~ Five for Fighting
Chasin' You Around ~ Sugar Ray
Slide ~ Goo Goo Dolls
When I'm Gone ~3 Doors Down
When I Come Around ~ Green Day
Hey Jealousy ~ Gin Blossoms
Just A Girl ~ No Doubt
Mr. Bartender ~ Sugar Ray
Black ~ Pearl Jam
Interstate Love Song ~ Stone Temple Pilots
Away From the Sun ~ 3 Doors Down
Iris ~ Goo Goo Dolls
Big Mistake ~ Natalie Imbruglia
Put Your Lights On ~ Carlos Santana/ Everlast
Dumb ~ Nirvana
100 Years ~ Five for Fighting
My Hit and Run ~ Third Eye Blind

Food Friday Meme

1.) What kind of breakfast do you prefer~ sweet or salty?
Salty.  I love eggs and bacon!  Although, I could make
do with a good chocolate muffin.

2.) Do you like a light lunch, or something substantial?
Either light or nothing.  I usually have a sandwich or salad.
3.) How often do you eat dinner out?
Once a week with my family, and usually one fast-food night.

4.) What is your favorite snack?
There are about 3 days a month that only chocolate will do. Otherwise, I'm not very snacky.  I do enjoy popcorn, chips and salsa, and Combos occasionally

5.) What do you drink at home?
Milk, tea, wine, water, probably in that order.

6.) When you were in school, did you eat school lunch, or take one with you?  I took lunch, (either tuna salad or bologna, some chips, fruit, and a Ding Dong!), until 3th grade.  Then I started eating school lunch. Well, that is until high school, when I decided that saving my money for the mall was more important than eating.  I did drink a container of chocolate milk every day in the cafeteria, though.

7.) What do you like on your pizza? Since I like really thin crust, I don't like toppings that weigh it down.  I'm fine with a plain cheese pizza, although I enjoy mushrooms and pepperoni, too.  I flove gourmet pizza.  (I'm eating a BBQ chicken and bacon pizza while I write this).

8.) Are there more vegetables that you love or more that you hate?  Love.  I really do love veggies.  Except lima beans.  And Brussel sprouts.  And cooked carrots.  Oh, and that yellow squash that restaurants always try to pass off as the "vegetable of the day".

9.) Are you allergic to any foods? Nope. Although, I'm pretty sure that fishsticks could make me break out in hives.

10.) Do you have an ideal meal?  Eating cold pizza with Overg after a bubblebath.  Or a two-pound lobster with drawn butter.
